SDBC Elite Team Update

3/20/11:  The rain kept most everyone at home today but Trina Jacobson were determined to race. Trina and Alison Maloof (SDBC Cat-3) both headed to the Spring Classic Grand Prix at Ontraio. The field was small but it wasn't raining. Lea Adams (SC Velo) won the race in a breakaway. Trina got 2nd in the field sprint for 3rd place overall. Jennifer Valente (Adams Ave) was 2nd.

In the Men's 1/2 race about 50 men braved the rain and cold. An 11 man break got away. Juan Cisneros won the field sprint for 12th, the last money spot.

3/13/11:  Today was the third day of Tour de Murrieta. The race was on a 2.3 mile course of country roads just outside of old town Murrieta.

For the Cat-2 men, the circuit race was going to decide who was going to win the GC. Diego Sandoval was still 2nd overall. The men's race was almost 2.5 hours long. On the last lap Diego got caught up in a crash two turns before the finish. Diego had to borrow a bike from a spectator to get to the finish line. In the end, Diego still finished a respectable 5th in GC. An amazing effort for a 17 year old with junior gears.

The Women's 1-3 race stayed together for a sprint finish. No breaks were successful. Trina Jacobson finished 9th and Laura Hines finished 10th. For the GC, Laura finished 8th overall.

3/12/11:  Day two of Tour de Murrieta was the Grand Prix. A great criterium in downtown Murrieta.

In the Cat-2 race, with the help of the full men's team, Diego Sandoval got 2nd place in a field sprint. Diego missed the win by half a bike length, with junior gears.

In the Women's 1-3 race, Laura hines got 7th. Three women got away in a break, Jen Valente won the field sprint and Laura got 7th.

3/11/11:  Today was the first day of Tour de Murrieta. A time trial is the first event, but to make it interesting, part of the course was on a dirt road!

In the Cat-2 category, the men did great. Diego Sandoval got 2nd place, Scott Hammack got 4th, and Eric Landman got 7th.

The women did not fair so well. Laura Hines and Tammy Lamnb both did the TT and both were ill. Laura was 17th and Tammy was 23rd. Tammy dropped out of the race after the TT.

2/27/11:  Simone Morissette and Tammy Lamb competed in the Peninsula Clif Climb 2, an uphill time trial. In the Women's 1-3 race Tammy won and Simone got 2nd place. Great riding ladies!

Most of the men's team went to Brawley for the Cattle Call Bike Rodeo Crit. In the Pro 1/2 race Martin Adamczyk took 8th, Thor Franck got 10th and Chris Bennett got 15th. The men that went to NOW Energy Bar Crit finished just outside of the money in the Pro 1/2 race but in the 30+ race Nick Onate took 8th place.

2/19/11:  Lot's of racing and rain Saturday. The men headed to Imperial Classic. Aaron Quesnell got 7th, Scott Hammack got 9th; both were in a breakaway. Martin Adamczyk was 13th, Chris Bennett was 14th, and Thorak Franck was 15th and Sam Dean was 16th. In the Men's 35+ race Chris Bennett got 7th. Chris raced both the 35+ and the Pro race.

On Sunday the men's team is split between Brawley and NOW Energy Bar Crit (CBR Crit #2). Most of the women will be racing NOW Energy Bar Crit (CBR Crit #2).

2/13/11:  Both the men's and women's elite team raced Roger Millikan (Brea) today. It seemed as though both races were about limiting losses and not getting tangled up in crashes. Taking home SoCal points from the women's race were Trina Jacobson; 9th, and Dianna Del Fante; 11th. In the men's race Aaaron Quesnell was in great position, 5th spot, going into the last corner but a rider ahead of him went down. Aaron stayed upright but his race was over.

2/9/11:  Trina (Thai-Phoon) Jacobson has submitted a race report on the teams win at Red Trolley last weekend. Click on RACE REPORTS. It's a great read. Enjoy.

Pictures of both the men's and women's elite races are available for viewing in the elite team GALLERY.

2/6/11:  The SDBC Women's Elite Team won their first race today. Simone, Trina, Dianna and Laura all raced the Red Trolley Women's 1/3 criterium. On the last lap Trina shot out of the pack at the top of the last climb and crossed the finish line several bike lengths ahead of the 2nd place rider. The win was a great team win.
